Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine. It emphasises manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation, and includes exercises and health and lifestyle counselling.

How does chiropractic work?

By restoring normal function to the musculoskeletal system chiropractic can play a major part in relieving disorders, and any accompanying pain or discomfort arising from modern day lifestyle, accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness and every day wear and tear that happens to all of us.

Using a modern, evidence based approach we create personal treatment plans that focus on the patient as an individual. We aim to help patients make informed decisions about their lifestyle and provide information on how to keep fit and healthy.

Treatment is very much a partnership between patient and chiropractor. At Wakefield Chiropractic Clinic treatment mainly involves safe, often gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly.

Apart from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including soft tissue work, massage, cross-friction, trigger point work, ice, heat, ultrasound, exercise and acupuncture.

When indicated dry needling (acupuncture) is offered to help deactivate trigger points. We offer advice on posture and lifestyle, fitness, exercise as well as demonstrating home exercises including training for the use of a Swedish Gym Ball for spinal rehabilitation and core strengthening.

Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they do very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related conditions.
